Al "Lannie" Hinz

Allan Edward Hinz, 82, of Waterford, Michigan, passed away on his birthday, June 11, 2025—making a stylish exit on the same day he made his entrance, just as only he could.

Born in Pontiac, Michigan on June 11, 1943, Allan lived a full and colorful life. He retired from General Motors after 30 years of dedicated work, and he proudly ran the family business, Al's Waterford Hardware Store. Whether it was helping customers at the shop or fixing something at home, Allan could always be counted on to lend a hand—with a stubborn streak and a wink.

Allan shared a lifelong love with his high school sweetheart, Barbara Hinz. Together, they built a beautiful life and recently celebrated 61 years of marriage—a testament to their deep bond, partnership, and mutual sense of humor.

He is survived by Barbara; his daughter, Traci Cohoon (Glen); granddaughter, Alexandra States (Anthony); and great-granddaughter, Calla, who brought him endless joy. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Lynn Coallier. He was preceded in death by his parents, Reverend Allan and Beryl Hinz.

Allan was a man of many quirks and quiet wisdom. Known for his shock of white hair and his "mafia man" charm, he was often the sharpest dresser in the room—even when just buying a lottery ticket. He loved gambling (with modest success), gardening, fishing, painting, and watching his family grow. He especially cherished time spent at his peaceful home on Chapman Lake in Gladwin, Michigan, where he found true relaxation surrounded by nature, water, and loved ones.

A Visitation will be held for Allan on Saturday June 14th from 3pm to 6pm at the Lewis E. Wint & Son Funeral Home, Clarkston. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Allan's memory to the American Diabetes Association or the Parkinson's Foundation —two causes close to his heart.

He will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and always loved.
