SCOTT, Alan (Scotty) Richard of Clarkston passed away peacefully at home on May 8 at age 83. Beloved husband of Narcedalia. Loving father of Michael (Lisa) Scott, Jay (Natalie) Richardson and Laura (Julio) Fonseca. Caring grandfather of Ella Scott, Lena Richardson, Alexa Scott, Olivia Fonseca, David Richardson, Sylvia Fonseca, Marco Richardson, Joanna Richardson. Brother of Carolyn Walden. His first wife Mary Anne Scott (Breen) passed away in 1986. He is also survived by loving members of the extended Uribe, Richardson and Breen families, many nieces and nephews and countless friends. He was known to many as "Scotty" and gladly answered to both his given and adopted name.
Alan was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving his country in domestic intelligence. He was a proud graduate of The College of William & Mary (ROTC) and earned his MBA at Indiana University. Scotty later spent more than 40 years working at Oakland University in Rochester, many of those helping students find jobs as a leader in the Placement Services office, retiring in 2004. Alan also spent many years as the faculty advisor for the Sigma Pi Fraternity chapter at Oakland University, having first become a member of the fraternity at William & Mary.
Scotty was a gentle soul who was as thoughtful as he was polite. He could strike up a conversation with strangers anywhere in Michigan or the world for that matter, finding new friends along every step of life. He enthusiastically attended countless sporting events, dance and piano recitals, chorus events and more for his sons, daughter and all eight grandchildren. He was proud of his service in the Army. He welcomed all and excluded no one in his homes with his two loving wives. Scotty's remarkable life was characterized by his humble, patient nature, quick wit, and kind words. He was born and raised in the Boston area before becoming a nearly 60-year transplant in Michigan.
Alan would have wanted his family members and friends to celebrate his life with memories, laughs and hugs, so all are welcome to his Celebration of Life Service on Monday, May 12 at Lewis E. Wint & Son Funeral Home, Clarkston from 4-8 p.m. with a service at Church of the Resurrection in Clarkston on Tuesday, May 13 at 10 a.m. A luncheon will follow the funeral in Clarkston from 11:30 - 2 to continue the celebration of Scotty's life. The location will be announced at the service.
Memorials may be made to Church of the Resurrection in Clarkston, or Humble Design in Southfield.
