Andreas Manchen

On Monday morning, September 14, 2026, Andreas Manchen, our loving father and Opa, was called to his heavenly home.

Andreas was born on February 24, 1923, in the German/Saxon village of Nades,

Romania to Georg and Regina Manchen. He was one of seven children, brother to

Georg, Elwine, Maria, Theresa, Misch and Karl and raised on the family farm. In 1942, he was drafted into the German army and fought the Russians on the Eastern Front. Following the war, he was sent to an internment camp where conditions were harsh. After being released, he met and fell in love with Lisa whom he married on September 2, 1950. While living in Gifhorn, Germany, Andreas worked and studied as an apprentice and became a master carpenter. On August 2, 1951, Lisa and Andreas welcomed their first-born son, Uwe Georg. Looking for a better life, they boarded the USNS General M.L. Hersey in Bremerhaven, Germany on May 3, 1952, and headed to the United States arriving on May 13, 1952. They settled with family in Detroit, Michigan. On January 22, 1955, they welcomed their second son, Peter Hans.

While learning the English language, working as a laborer and later building custom homes, Andreas decided to open his own company, Macomb Fire Door in Roseville, MI. He retired after many successful years. Time passed and the family grew. Andreas and Lisa had 2 grandchildren and eventually 6 great grandchildren. They enjoyed traveling. One of their fondest memories was a trip to the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. During that trip, we were surprised to learn that Andreas was an experienced horse handler from his days on the farm. After a wild horse and buggy ride around the island, we all agreed that the horse had more experience.

As Lisa’s health declined, Andreas became her caretaker. After 40 years in their home in East Detroit, they moved to Waterford. Lisa passed away in 2018 and for the first time in his life, Andreas was alone. He adopted a rescue cat named Holly to keep him company. In April 2025, Andreas’ health began to decline. He managed to live independently all the way up to his passing. On September 11, 2026, he was hospitalized and three days later God called him home.

Andreas is survived by his son Uwe (Sheila), his son Peter (Mark), his grandchildren Elizabeth (Craig) and Joel (Sarah), and his great grandchildren Luke, Adam, Ava, Jacob, Jackson and Joshua.

Begin with God, End with God, that is the best path in life!

A private memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial

donations may be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation at t2t.org.
