Arno W Winkler

WINKLER, Arno W., of Waterford, formerly of Bay City; passed away on Saturday August 19, 2023; age 88.

He was born on May 3, 1935 in Berlin, Germany and came to America in 1955. Arno grew up in Bay City, Michigan and soon was drafted in the United States Army. He served his country proudly during the Vietnam War. After the war he worked as a Toolmaker for General Motors and retired after 30 plus years of faithful service.  In his free time Arno enjoyed spending time with nature and outdoors. He loved to play tennis, go hiking and take bike rides. He took up downhill skiing many years ago, later joining the ski patrol and giving lessons to new skiers at various ski hills around Michigan. He loved his ski trips out west, most recently enjoying his trip out to Winter Park, Colorado with his family.

He is survived by his loving children Mark (the late Karen) Winkler of Saginaw and Heidi Winkler (William Theile) of Waterford and his dearest grandson Alexander Gardner.

A committal service with military honors will take place on Friday, September 15, 2023 at 11AM, at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly. Please arrive 15 minutes early at the staging area. Cremation services were entrusted to the Lewis E. Wint Funeral Home, Clarkston.
