Carlene Marion Gruenwald January 24, 1947 – August 31, 2026
Carlene Marion Gruenwald passed away on August 31, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Carlene was born on January 24, 1947, to Carl Henry Pitts and Mary Helen Weeden. She grew up in Detroit, Michigan, and later married the love of her life, Arthur Lewis Gruenwald, who preceded her in death in 2007.
Carlene is survived by her children, Barbara Ann Grupido and her husband, Nicola J. Grupido Jr., and Michael Keith McLaughlin and his wife, Leslie McLaughlin.
She was a cherished grandmother to Wenonah Grupido; Shannon Misty McLaughlin and her husband, Christopher Simonetti; Nicola Joseph Grupido III and his wife, Carolina Cumbajin Candel; Shane Michael McLaughlin and his wife, Abby; Christopher Dant; Eryn Katerina Grupido; and Christian Tanner McLaughlin.
She was also a proud and loving great-grandmother to Colton, Gracie, Anastasia, and Oliver.
Carlene had an adventurous spirit and truly lived each day to the fullest. She loved to travel and lived in many places throughout the United States. A proud, bra-burning hippie with a fearless streak, she raced muscle cars through the desert and never shied away from an adventure. Her strength and determination were remarkable. Carlene continued working full-time until July 2026, just one month before her passing. Carlene lived boldly, loved deeply, and created a lifetime of unforgettable memories.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by everyone who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.
