Carol Ann Madden

MADDEN, Carol Ann of Clarkston; passed away on July 19, 2026. Beloved wife of Timothy "Tim" for 62 years. Loving mother of Lisa (Patrick) Sementkowski, Amy (John) Reno, and Kristin Kaspari. Proud grandmother of Jonah Sementkowski, Chloe Kaspari, Kasey Reno, Aidan (Hanna) Kaspari, Grace Sementkowski, and Jack Reno. Cherished great grandmother of Daisy. Dearest sister of James (Eileen) Schmitz, Robert (Debbie) Schmitz, Jeanne (Bill) Glanville, Deb (Ralph) Geisler, and the late Michael Schmitz. And caring aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Carol had an extreme passion for all animals and found her place as a dedicated volunteer at Adopt-A-Pet in Fenton for many years. She found her purpose and joy there, caring for animals in need. She made wonderful friends in her multiple years there, especially her breakfast crew. She mentored many new volunteers, walked and washed hundreds of dogs - puppies and even the big dogs, cared for the kittens and cats in all the cat rooms, and even read to the animals. Her passion followed her home as she fostered cats and dogs over the years and tended to the neighborhood cat colony. She also volunteered for years with Meals On Wheels with her best friend and husband Tim. She had a special bond with her Meals on Wheels recipients and regularly spent time talking and visiting with them on her deliveries.

Carol and Tim moved numerous times as their life together unfolded. Carol made every move a fun adventure (especially summer days at the Ona Jr. High pool getting Funyuns and Charleston Chews), as they adjusted to each new home in each new state. Their entire life revolved around family. They regularly traveled to Pittsburgh, as they had grown up there, to spend time with her siblings (especially her sisters), extended family, and good friends. She was a fierce protector of her three daughters throughout all of their lives and was grateful for the relationship she had with each of them. Her greatest gifts of all were the grandchildren her daughters gave to her. Her most treasured memories were of Bethany Beach every summer with the whole family. Those two weeks were full of laughter, riding the waves, shelling, visiting the boardwalk, cut-throat card games, and teaching her grandchildren the value of family. She also loved hosting holidays at their house: Easter egg hunts in the driveway; Thanksgiving when the grandkids would spend the night and they would all go to the movies the next day; Christmas with so many appetizers no one was hungry for dinner. She always made a point to spend time with each grandkid doing the things that they loved most and attended many school plays, talent shows, music concerts, sporting events, robotics competitions, art shows - whatever the grandkids were involved in, she was interested in. And she never missed a graduation. Carol was most famous for her chocolate chip cookies, and though many have tried to recreate them, there will never be anything quite like a “Grammi cookie,” chased with a Downey’s potato chip and a glass of Lipton iced tea (sweetened, of course).

She brought a pocketful of sunshine with her wherever she went, with her beaming smile lighting up every room. She was warmhearted, kind, compassionate, lively, and the best Grammi.

Carol will forever be missed by each and every person who knew and loved her dearly.

There will be a private service for family only.
