Daniel Pinkney Swope of Clarkston, Michigan died peacefully on January 14th, 2025. Dan was born in Boston, Massachusetts on November 3, 1948. He was the second child of Oliver and Elspeth Swope of Ann Arbor, Michigan. He is survived by his siblings, Jeffrey, Adele, Martin and Dodi and their families. We are so grateful for the tender loving care and fierce advocacy of his caregiver and friend, Beverly Williams. His housemate, Ryan Sellers, was a dear friend and great support. Dan will also be missed by their sweet kitty, Honey Baby.
Dan attended Detroit's Coleman School, and spent many summers as a camper and later a volunteer at Camp Happy Hollow (now the Fowler Center for Outdoor Education) in Mayville, Michigan. He worked for Kroger's for over 30 years. Dan was a kind soul whose greatest joy was helping others. He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and was an active member in his local Knights of Columbus; Father Baumgartner Council #5452, where he was a Fourth Degree member. Dan attended Saint Daniels Church in Clarkston and enjoyed serving as an usher.
Dan loved the outdoors, camping, swimming and boating. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed coho fishing with his dad in Michigan's beautiful waterways. He loved sports, especially his Michigan Wolverines, Detroit Lions and Tigers, and his local Clarkston Wolves. He loved good rock and roll and spent many happy evenings at the DTE Center and Pine Knob hearing his favorite bands.
Dan was an active member of the Independence Township Senior Community Center, where weekly bingo, luncheons and trips were among his favorite activities. He was proud of the vegetable plot he maintained there for several years.
Donations in Dan's memory may be made to the Independence Township Senior Community Center 6000 Clarkston Road, Clarkston, Michigan 48348), the Fowler Center 2315 Harmon Lake Road, Mayville, Michigan 48744 or the charity of your choice.
