David Perry Williams was elected Vice Chairman of the Board of the Budd Company in January 2000. In 1976, Mr. Williams joined The Budd Company as Vice President of Sales and Marketing. In 1979, he was appointed Senior Vice President of Operations, and in 1986 he was made President and Chief Operating Officer.
Prior to joining Budd, he spent 13 years with Kelsey-Hayes Company, his last position being Vice President of Sales and Marketing. He then served at I.T.T. in New York as Corporate Vice President and Worldwide Automotive Product Line Manager, primarily involved in the acquisition and management of ITT's Automotive holdings in Europe, North America and Brazil. At the time, Mr. Williams was the youngest Vice President ever appointed within ITT.
Mr. Williams was a member of the Board of Directors of The Budd Company, Lason, SPX Corporation and Standard Federal Bank. Mr. Williams was a member of the Directors Table of Beta Gamma Sigma, the Honor Society of Collegiate Schools of Business. In 1994, he was the recipient of the Outstanding Alumnus Award from the Michigan State University School of Business. Mr. Williams has served in various charitable capacities. He was Chairman of the Consortium for Human Development from 1984 to 1991 and has chaired several fund raising events for The United Fund and The Boy Scouts of America.
Mr. Williams was President of Bloomfield Hills Country Club and also a member of Tequesta Country Club and the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews, Scotland.
He graduated from Cranbrook School and earned a Bachelors and Masters Degree in business from Michigan State University. He was a Captain in the U.S. Air Force.
David was preceded in death by his beloved wife of almost fifty years, Jill; father of Perry (Angie) Williams, David Williams, Tracy Williams, Will (Mary Pat) Hosler and Nell (Elliott) Beattie; grandpa/par of Makenzie (Will) Roland, Marshall Williams, Willie Beattie, Brooks Beattie and Dean Hosler.
Cremation services entrusted to Lewis E. Wint & Son Funeral Home, Clarkston.
A Memorial Gathering will be held Saturday, January 13, 2024, from 12:30 - 4:00 pm, at the Bloomfield Hills Country Club, 350 W. Long Lake Rd., Bloomfield Hills, MI, 48304.
