Donald Louis Russell Sr.

RUSSELL, Donald L. Sr., of Pontiac; passed away on June 11, 2024, at the age of 72. He was born on January 26, 1952, in New Orleans, Louisiana to the late John and Gertrude (Hardy) Russell. Loving husband of Deborah for 43 wonderful years; dearest father of Denneen (Jason) Campbell, Dorri Russell, Darnee (Hope) Russell and Donald L. Russell Jr., proud grandpa of Thomas Campbell; brother-in-law of Joanne Russell and uncle to Shameka (Linc), Jonathan (Rochelle), Randolph Jr., Alana (De Juan) and Alicia (Quinton); best friend of Aurthur (Ruth) Stewart III. He is also survived by many cousins, extended family and too many friends to mention.  Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his brother Randolph Russell.

Donald's family moved to Pontiac where he grew up and graduated from Pontiac Central High School in 1970. He married the love of his life Deborah Barber in Pontiac on August 1, 1980. He was an officer and worked Road Patrol for the Pontiac Police Department, retired in 2011. He would continue his law enforcement career with the Oakland County Sherriff's Department, working as a Deputy, retiring on October 25, 2023.

If you knew Donald you know he never met a stranger, making friends everywhere. He was a fanatic about his yard and loved mowing his lawn. He enjoyed hosting friends at his house cooking and BBQing for them and you never left with an empty stomach. Most of all he loved his family and the time he was able to spend with them.

Friends may visit Lewis E. Wint & Son Funeral Home in Clarkston on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, from 4:00pm-9:00pm. Funeral Service will be Wednesday, June 19th at 10:00 am at Redeemed Christian Center 114 S. Genesee St. Pontiac ,with visitation from 9:00am until the time of the service. A burial will follow at Perry Mt. Park Cemetery, Pontiac.
