Garrison Allen Tippett

In Memory of GARRISON "PAPPY" ALLEN TIPPETT (age 74)

November 24, 1948- September 4, 2023, Curtis, Michigan

Survived by his daughter Dee Anne (son-in-law Ibrahim Kaddouh), his son Gerald "Jerry" Allen (daughter-in-law Cheryl Tippett), his granddaughters Elizabeth, Kelcie (husband Ben Hauch) and Kaylinn. His great-grandsons Carter & Emerson and great-granddaughters Emma & Grace; sister-in-law Janet Tippett and many nieces, nephews and friends, including Patrick Tippett (wife Michelle) who have diligently looked after him the past few years.

Preceded in death by his son, Steven "Stevie" Edward, his parents Mary and John and his brothers Robert and Jack and sister Rosemary.

Garrison "Gary" was known as Pappy since his granddaughter Elizabeth began talking. He was born in Royal Oak, Michigan and grew up in Oxford, Michigan. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army and served 2 consecutive tours as an OH-6 Helicopter Mechanic during the Vietnam War.  He was also in a helicopter fleet that dropped off troops and supplies, and retrieved wounded and deceased soldiers during battle.  He was awarded 6 medals, including a Bronze Star.

After the war, he married Valerie Petty and raised 3 children. He graduated from Spartan College of Aeronautics and worked in automotive at Pontiac Steel for 15 years, then drove a semi and other heavy machinery for the later part of his career. He was knowledgeable of engines, electronics, mechanics, and excelled at fixing just about anything.  He retired around 2006.

Gary enjoyed Northern Michigan and the outdoors, barbequing, hunting, fishing, camping, boating, gardening and taking photos. Gary loved his family dearly and made daily phone calls to his kids and grandkids. Being a Tippett, he had a stubborn side, but he was always there for anyone who needed help or advice. When he was ornery it was like walking on eggshells but when he was jolly, he was one of the funniest people you knew. He was also an animal lover and adored his dogs, Pugsley and Missy Linn.

Pappy was a generous and caring person, who would go out of his way for anyone, and he will be greatly missed by family, friends and all who knew him. Rest in eternal peace...
