HUNT, George William, of Whitehall, formerly of Clarkston, passed away (peacefully) on May 31, 2026, at the age of 94. He was born August 20, 1931, in Ferndale, Michigan, to William and Sylvia Hunt.
George was the beloved husband of Dorothy "Dottie" Hunt; loving father of Rick (Marla) Hunt and Dianna (David) Jenks, loving uncle-father to Kelly Kraft; and proud Papa of Ashley (Benjamin) Stadel, Andrew (Christina) Jenks, Christopher (Kim) Hunt, and Stephanie (Travis) Heier, Grace Kraft and Christian Kraft. . He was also the cherished great-grandfather of nine great-grandchildren.
George was affectionately known as "Uncle George" or UG to many nieces and nephews, all of whom knew the depth of his love, generosity, and unwavering support.
George was preceded in death by his daughter, Christine Marie Hunt; his parents, William and Sylvia Hunt; and his brother, Robert Hunt.
A proud American, George served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. Following his military service, he built a successful career with AAA Auto Club in West Bloomfield, retiring as a General Agent. He enjoyed golfing, boating, and snow skiing, and was a longtime member of the Detroit Yacht Club.
More than anything, George treasured his family and friends. He had a gift for making others feel welcome, valued, and cared for. His warm smile, generous spirit, and genuine concern for those around him left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
A cemetery service with military honors will be held at Great Lakes National Cemetery on Friday, June 12th at 1:30pm. Please arrive at cemetery staging area at 1:15pm.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Lewis E. Wint & Son Funeral Home, Clarkston.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warrior Project or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
