George B. Mann

MANN, George B. of Clarkston, passed away August 29, 2026, at the age of 90. Born January 5, 1936, to Raymond and Mildred (nee Crosby) Mann, George was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine, and his brother, Raymond Jr. He was the proud father of Gail Mann-Bowser and Jennifer (Michael) Angus; papa to Jessica (Brandon) Bowser-Cox, Micah (Joshua) Peterson and Quinn Angus; and great-grandpa to Kenobi and Kerbi. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.

George was a lifelong Clarkston resident and part of the Mann family with deep roots in the community dating back to the early 1900s. His grandfather, George H. Mann, settled in Clarkston and established the family through farming and operating the Clarkston Mill. George grew up on the family farm, where his father, Arnold, managed the local Henry Ford farming operations. The land, farming and Clarkston community remained an important part of George’s life for generations.

A graduate of Clarkston High School, Class of 1954, George was involved in 4-H from a young age and raised sheep on the family farm. He went on to attend Michigan State University of Agriculture and Applied Sciences, continuing his lifelong interest in agriculture.

George was also an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, being outdoors and a longtime member of Ducks Unlimited... He often told stories of after-school hunting excursions with classmates and teachers and later enjoyed his time as a member of the Pontiac Hunt Club in Curran.

George began a long and successful career with Ford Tractor, as Services Manager for Ford Tractor/Case New Holland. It was also at Ford where he met his future wife, Elaine Cummings. They married in 1956 and built their home on the remaining property of the family farm, where they raised their family.

After retirement, George returned to something he had always loved — farming. He kept a small, select flock of Cheviot sheep that was well respected by fellow breeders and competitors at regional livestock shows. He took great pride in his sheep and enjoyed the friendships and camaraderie that came with being part of the agricultural community.

George will be remembered for his love of family, farming, the outdoors, love of history, good friends and the many stories he shared along the way. He was proud of his Clarkston roots and leaves behind a family that continues a connection to the community he called home for 90 years.

Friends may visit Lewis E. Wint & Son Funeral Home, Clarkston, on Wednesday, September 2, from 4:00–8:00 p.m.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, September 3, at 12:30 p.m. at Lewis E. Wint & Son Funeral Home, Clarkston, followed by a graveside service at Lakeview Cemetery, Clarkston.
