Jacqueline "Jackie" Tack

Jacqueline Carol Smith Tack ("Jackie") of Clarkston, Michigan, passed away on December 11, 2025, at the age of 81, surrounded by loving family. Jackie was born on December 24, 1943 to John and Estelle Smith, the oldest of two daughters. She is reunited with her loving husband and best friend of 54 years, Paul Tack.

Jackie was raised in Grosse Pointe, and graduated from Grosse Pointe High School. She was a stenographer at The Detroit News before meeting the love of her life on a blind date. Less than a year later, she married Paul Tack on January 30, 1965, at St. Paul on the Lake Catholic Church in Grosse Pointe Farms. Together they moved to Sterling Heights to raise their three children.

Jackie valued being an active member of her community, serving as a Girl Scout leader, cheerleader coach, member of the City Planning Committee, and volunteer at the Sterling Heights High School Career Resource Center.

Jackie and Paul were the proud owners of Sterling Trenching Co., a family construction business that served the community for 31 years. Their work left a lasting mark across Oakland County, including projects at the Pontiac Silverdome, the Palace of Auburn Hills, and several buildings in Clarkston – a town they fell in love with and eventually called home.

Jackie always had her nose in a book and also enjoyed her daily walks and solving puzzles. She loved listening to Top 40 hits and, even at 81, could name today's pop songs and artists. She was spotted dancing to these hits at all her grandchildren's weddings.

Jackie devoted the most energy to her closest community: her family and friends. She cherished time spent up north at the family cabin on Lake Ogemaw, where she brought people together to create life-shaping memories. She was most carefree when swimming and shared that love of water with her family. Like her father, Jackie valued correspondence and found joy not only in receiving cards but also sending them. Jackie is remembered for her diligence, never one to miss a birthday or holiday of those closest to her heart.

Preceding Jackie in death are her husband, Paul Tack, and her parents, John and Estelle Smith.

Remaining to cherish Jackie's memory is her strong loving family: three children Shelia (David) Murphy, James (Amy) Tack, and Carol (Ryan) Barber; eight grandchildren, Robin (Jason) Murphy-Hackbarth, Josh (Bailey) Murphy, Paul M. (Kelsey) Murphy, Jeremy Murphy, Katie Tack, Emily (Andrew) VanSlyke, Aaron (Anne) Barber, and Justin Barber; seven great-grandchildren, Remington Murphy, Addilyn Murphy, Hunter Hackbarth, Aspen Hackbarth, Ember Hackbarth, Ellyana VanSlyke, Liam VanSlyke; and sister, Sheila Smith.

Visitation will be held Monday, December 15th from 4pm to 8pm at the Lewis E. Wint & Son Funeral Home, Clarkston.
