It is with deep love and sadness that we announce the passing of Janet N. Purves of Clarkston, age 87 surrounded by her family on May 13, 2026. She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter and devotion to family and friends.
On September 15, 1956, Janet married the love of her life, Tom. When Janet met Tom while she was working at the Cunningham's lunch counter in Owosso, Michigan, it was love at first sight - beginning a remarkable journey that spanned nearly seven decades. Together, they raised five children and created a family legacy rooted in love, laughter and countless cherished memories. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Janet found her greatest joy in spending time with her family. She was known for her fun-loving spirit, warm heart, and the way she made everyone feel welcome. Shopping for great bargains was her passion and a learned skilled she passed on to her family. Summers at the Purves home created memories that will last forever, filled with fun parties, swimming, laughter, good food and many spirited games of "serious regulation volleyball" that became a treasured family tradition. A fun day with Grandma wasn't complete without a golf cart ride packed with cousins, a dog or two and big hot bowl of popcorn at the end of the day.
Alongside her beloved husband, Tom Purves, who preceded her in death on January 10, 2025, Janet proudly co-owned and operated Purves Excavating. While Tom handled the Excavation work, she was the steady force behind the scenes, keeping everything running smoothly with exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and dedication. Together they built not only a successful
business, but a life centered on family, hard work and community.
Janet is survived by five children Julie (Gerald) Lee, Cindy Kreiner, Carrie (Glenn) Smith, Shelley (Steven) Gould, Thomas (Melissa) Purves, Grandma of Deanna (Sean), Brian (Lauren), William/BG (Lindsey), Kyle (Jackie), Derek (Krystle), Tom (Lauren), Joe (Katie), Thomas, Allie (William) and Great Grandma to Troy, Evan, Trenton, Isaiah, Robyn, Liam, Aurelia, Annabel, Kyla, Rafferty, beautiful twins, Elizabeth and Penelope and Austin. She is also survived by many nephews, nieces (who proclaim Aunt Janet their favorite) and countless friends who were blessed to know her.
