Janice Karen Groat

GROAT, Janice Karen "Jan"; of Waterford formerly of Clarkston;

born March 20, 1951 in Pontiac to John "Jack" and Laura "Betty" Skarritt; passed away suddenly on February 24, 2025 of natural causes;age 73.

Wife of Michael for 55 years; mother of Chad (Angie) Groat and Karen (Chris) Wittman; grandma of Justin Arquette, Michael Groat, Tyler Squier and Kimberly Wittman; great grandma of Ryan and Wyatt Arquette; sister of John (Diane) Skarritt III; preceded in death by her parents and her sisters: Jeri VanLoon & JoAnn Betts; daughter in law of Donna "Sally" (late Clyde) Groat and Eileen (Geo) Purdy; also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Jan graduated from Clarkston High School in 1969 and soon after, married Michael. She had worked for Clarkston Disposal but dedicated herself to being a wife, mom and grandma. She treasured special "Grandma Days" where she was able to help care and spend time with her grandchildren. Jan enjoyed flower gardening and loved animals. Her little dog, Jasmine "Jazzy", was even with her at her passing. Jan loved to horseback ride and broke horses for riding in her earlier days. She provided food and outside shelter for cats. Christmas was Jan's favorite holiday and will always be a time she is honored for her generosity, organization and decorating.

Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2025 from 1:00pm - 4:00pm at Overtyme Grille, 4724 Dixie Highway, Waterford, 48329.

In honor of Jan's love for animals, memorials may be made to Oakland County Animal Shelter and Pet Adoption Center .
