In loving memory of Jerome (Jerry) Sabulej, a remarkable man whose journey began on November 30, 1943, in Hamtramck, Michigan. Jerry is leaving behind his beloved wife of 58 years, Pauline, his daughters, René DeRyckere (Dan) and Robin Thompson (Sam), his four cherished granddaughters, Dana, Danielle, Ella and Sydney, and his sister, Anna Mae Poplawski. He was predeceased by his father, John (Jack) Sabulej, and his mother, Patra (Pearl) Sabulej.
Jerry's path was marked by his dedicated service to his country, proudly serving in the Marines until his honorable discharge as a Corporal E4 in 1965. His commitment to duty and unwavering courage exemplified the core values he carried throughout his life. His valor and dedication earned him the respect of his peers and the admiration of his family, instilling in them a sense of pride that will endure through generations.
He began his career as a Tool Maker with General Motors in 1966, and after 32 dedicated years, he retired in 1998 as a Senior Reliability Quality Engineer.
Beyond his military service and career, Jerry found solace and joy in the simple pleasures of life. His love for fishing was unparalleled—whether casting a line into a tranquil lake or regaling tales of the "one that got away," he found peace in the serenity of the water. He loved a good game of golf, especially a bit of competition with his daughter, René, son-in-law, nieces and his closest friends. He was also a superfan of the Detroit Lions and enjoyed watching games each week during football season.
However, his greatest treasure is his family. His devotion to his wife, daughters, and granddaughters was immeasurable. He was a pillar of strength, offering guidance, wisdom, and unconditional love. His eyes lit up brightest in the presence of his granddaughters, showering them with affection and creating cherished memories that will forever be etched in their hearts.
Mario, his loyal canine companion, was more than just a pet; he was a faithful friend who shared countless moments of joy and companionship with Jerry. Mario's passing was deeply felt, a loss that reflected the depth of Jerry's love for those closest to him.
In the wake of Jerry's passing, he leaves behind a family united by the values he imparted—a legacy of love, bravery, and unwavering support. Though he may have departed this world, his spirit will live on in the stories told, the memories cherished, and the lessons learned from a life well-lived.
Jerry will be remembered not only for his career, military service or his love of fishing, but for the profound impact he made in the lives of those who were privileged to call him husband, father, papa, brother, uncle, father-in-law, cousin and friend. May Jerry rest in eternal peace, reunited with loved ones gone before him, including his loyal companion Mario, in a place where love knows no bounds.
