Judith S. Hickey

HICKEY, Judith Suzanne “Judy” (maiden name Azoian); of Pontiac; born March 20, 1942 in Pontiac to Samuel and Irene Azoian; passed away September 11, 2026 at the age of 84; mother of Jeffrey Hickey and Gary (Joanne) Hickey.

Grandma of Marquise Hale, Alexa (Chasey) Hickey, Leah (Larry) Quick, Kiara Hickey, Kamrin Hickey and Keigan Hickey.

Great Grandma of Maya, Noelle, Remi and Violet.

Sister of Sandra (Carl) Hutchinson, the late Sadie (Vahan) Basmajian and the late Arthur (Nancy) Azoian.

Also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, special family in Maine, many friends including special friends: Mattie Vining, Carol Smist and Maureen Kinney.

Judy graduated from Pontiac Central High School and beauty school in 1962. She was a talented hair stylist. She discovered a passion for beauty early in life. For over 50 years, she brought joy, confidence and style to countless clients through her work at Sadie’s Salon, Josef & Company, Lisa & Friends Salon and Irma’s Salon. She also styled in her basement, where she balanced being a mom and controlling her rambunctious boys while cutting her client’s hair. She made every person who sat in her “chair” feel beautiful.

Judy was a proud Armenian. As a child, she loved to travel to Portland, Maine to spend time with her Grandparents, Uncle Bob & Auntie Pauline, and her cousins, feasting on lobster and celebrating cherished Armenian traditions. She had strong family values and loved her children, grandchildren and extended family, passionately and unconditionally. She also loved jewelry and often said that her Dad would call her “Gypsy Rosalie.” She was a true fashionista, who loved all things beauty. She never went anywhere without her lipstick and loved to try all the latest potions and lotions. She was a very attractive woman who always strived to look her best. Afterall, she was in the “Business of Beauty!”

Judy loved to watch and cheer on the Detroit Tigers. In fact, when it was time to sell her beloved house at 181 Navajo, where she lived for 50+ years, the real estate agent who helped her sell was a former Detroit Tigers player! She enjoyed playing bingo, flower gardening, watching movies, dancing and cooking and was a self-acclaimed sun goddess.

Judy lived her life unapologetically, on her own terms, and with a spark that could light up (and sometimes stir up) any room. Whether it was speaking her mind, challenging the status quo or laughing in the face of life’s curveballs, she did it all with a twinkle in her eye and a quick wit that kept everyone on their toes.

Judy was a cancer survivor twice in her lifetime. She beat breast cancer and then Stage 4 lymphoma. She was the true definition of a fighter.

Friends may visit Lewis E. Wint & Son Funeral Home, Clarkston on Thursday, September 17th at 11:00am with a funeral at 12 Noon.

Cemetery service to follow at Ottawa Park Cemetery, Clarkston.
