Leanora Beverly Brackett

Leanora Beverly Brackett, age 90, passed away peacefully on a very cold January 23, 2026. Born in Detroit, Michigan, Leanora lived a long and beautiful life filled with devotion, adventure, curiosity, and deep, enduring love. At just 18, she married her beloved husband, Clifford Gale Brackett, on June 18, 1953. Their marriage was a true partnership—steadfast, joyful, and rooted in faith.

Leanora's life was enriched by wonderful friends, memorable vacations, and the unwavering support of her devoted husband. She was the proud mother of four children: Chris Brackett (wife Judy), Steve Brackett (wife Cindy), Doug Brackett (wife Cheryl), and Rebecca (Brackett) Iodice (husband James "Jamie" Iodice). Her legacy continues through her 11 grandchildren and 10 great‑grandchildren.

For 30 years, Leanora worked as a dedicated histotechnologist at St. Joseph of Pontiac. Her precision, work ethic, and compassion touched countless lives.

Leanora was deeply involved in her faith community at the First Congregational Church of North Oakland, where she was an active and cherished member. She found lifelong friendship in the 2x2s, whose love and support surrounded her family for decades.

She had a creative spirit and a boundless enthusiasm for crafting, knitting, and especially shopping. Her best friend, Nancy Shoup, was her partner‑in‑crime, and together they could turn a simple errand into a full‑day adventure.

Leanora was also known for her love of new technology. She had to be the first to have it—electronic games, one of the earliest microwaves, and even the unforgettable bag phone. Later in life, technology became more challenging, but her determination never faded. If she wanted the newest gadget—especially that Apple Watch—she would nag, coax, and charm her way into getting it.

Her curiosity extended far beyond Earth. She believed wholeheartedly in the possibility of extraterrestrial life, and the family often joked about putting a sign in the backyard that read, "Land Here."

Leanora also loved games. She played pinochle with her dear friends for years, filling countless evenings with laughter, competition, and companionship. She passed that love of games on to her children and grandchildren. Dominoes became a family staple—complete with the long‑standing tradition of letting Dad cheat and teaching the grandchildren how to cheat too, all in the name of fun and togetherness.

Family meant everything to her. She believed that travel was education and insisted on family vacations every year. These trips became legendary: Mom reading every single plaque, determined that everyone learn something, while Dad photographed every single flower, determined to document everything. Together, they created memories that shaped their children's lives and instilled a lifelong love of history, learning, and adventure.

Above all, Leanora was a woman of remarkable strength, determination, and heart. She shaped her children's lives with her example, her resilience, and her unwavering love.

She will be remembered with profound love, gratitude, and admiration by all who were blessed to know her.

In the final months of her life, Leanora received care from New Heights Assisted Living in Clarkston, Michigan, with additional support from Bluebird Hospice. Though her time with both organizations was brief, New Heights became the place that truly felt like home. Sarah and her team created an environment filled with warmth, dignity, and genuine affection — the kind of care that wraps around both the resident and the family. Their small, home‑based setting allowed Leanora to be known personally, cared for attentively, and surrounded by people who treated her with the same tenderness they would offer their own loved ones. The compassion, stability, and comfort they provided eased the weight of a very difficult chapter and gave our family peace when it was needed most. Bluebird Hospice complemented this care with their own commitment to dignity and comfort, offering emotional support and expert guidance that helped ensure Leanora's final chapter was met with clarity, compassion, and respect.

In honor of Leanora's life, and in gratitude for the extraordinary care she received in her final months, the family asks that donations be made to New Heights Assisted Living. Anything you can give would be greatly appreciated, and it will directly support the compassionate, high‑quality care they provide to families facing some of life's most difficult moments. Your generosity helps ensure that others can experience the same comfort, dignity, and love that Leanora did.
