Harwood, Linda, a former resident of Tyrone Township and Troy, MI and retired Utica Community Schools elementary teacher and artist, passed away peacefully on December 12, 2024, after a long battle with dementia. She was 76 years old. Linda was born in Highland Park, MI on April 3,1948 to William Mitchell Middleton and Frances Marie Middleton (Wood). She was the middle child between her two sisters, Pamela and Karen. Linda graduated from Wylie E. Groves High School in Birmingham, Michigan in 1966. She continued her education and graduated from Michigan State University in elementary education in 1970 and then Saginaw Valley State University for her master's degree in education. Known for her kind heart and creative personality, Linda had a long career as a teacher, starting first in art education, then transitioning to kindergarten and first grade in Utica Community Schools. Linda was an accomplished ceramic artist, with pieces featured at the Flint Institute of Arts art school. She was also a talented skier and loved visiting Colorado. She is survived by her two daughters: Megan (Perry) McConnell and Kirsten (Michael) Donnellon; her dear granddaughters Katherine, Heather, and Chelsea McConnell, and Betty, Jolene, and Quincy Donnellon; her sisters Pam (Gregory) Kane and Karen (John) Maynard; nieces and nephews Christine, Jason, Beth, Sean, and Kristiana; grandnieces and grandnephews Martin, Ruth, Rosalie, Harrison, Frances, John, and Rory; as well as many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Allen Harwood, in 2019. A private celebration of life will be held at a date to be announced in the Spring/Summer of 2025.
