Mary Jo Metz

Mary Jo Metz, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great‑grandmother, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, December 27, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. She was the devoted wife of Fred Metz for 62 years, sharing a marriage rooted in faith, commitment, and grace. She was the proud mother of three, grandmother of four, and great‑grandmother of two — blessings she cherished as gifts from God.

Born on July 7, 1942, in Waterford, Michigan, Mary Jo lived a life shaped by faith, family, and service. She spent 20 years in Lake Zurich, Illinois, before returning home in 2004 to be closer to her family. A lifelong Catholic, she found strength and comfort in her faith and was devoted to the traditions that grounded her throughout her life.

Her home was a reflection of her heart — immaculate, warm, and always open to others. She had a gift for creating beauty and hospitality, whether through her crafts, her thoughtful touches, or the way she welcomed everyone as if they were family. Holidays were especially meaningful to her, and she poured her love into every feast, creating traditions that will be carried on for generations.

Mary Jo is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Fred; her son Dan and his wife Lori; her son Kevin and his wife Jean; her daughter Kristin (Metz) Sass and her husband Christopher; her grandchildren Zachary Sass, Jacob Sass, Rachael (Metz) Lessner and her husband Zach, and Joseph Metz and his fiancée Kirsten; and her great‑grandchildren Kane and Judd Lessner. She is also survived by her sister Laura. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Marjorie Willits.

A memorial service will be held at Wint Funeral Home, 5929 S. Main St., Clarkston, on Friday, January 2, with visitation from 4:00–8:00 p.m. and the Rosary prayed at 5:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will follow at St. Rita Catholic Church in Holly, Michigan, on Saturday, January 3, at 11:00 a.m.

The family offers deep thanks to the nurses, caregivers, and hospice team who cared for Mary Jo with such tenderness. Their kindness was a true work of mercy and a reflection of Christ's love. They are also grateful for the comforting presence and spiritual support of their pastor, whose prayers and guidance were a blessing in her final days.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital , honoring Mary Jo's lifelong spirit of faith and generosity.
May her soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
