SHINER, Mary Esther; born on July 2, 1938 in Detroit, Michigan to Carl and Julia Diehl; of Troy; passed away on June 8, 2024 at the age of 85;

Preceded in death recently by her husband Robert "Bob"; mother of Paul (Dawn) Shiner and David Shiner; grandma of Amanda Shiner, Alexandria Shiner, Ryanne (Chad) Kelley, Mary Shiner, Carli Shiner and Declan Shiner; great grandma of Layne Kelley; special cousin of Connie (Frank) Vasilnek;

Mary worked as an office manager for state Senator Doug Carl and U.S. Senator Spencer Abraham. She was an active Republican, attending many conventions and serving as a Troy Precinct Delegate. She and her husband were members of St Rene Goupil Catholic Church and she served as choir director at Saints Cyril and Methodius Parish in Sterling Heights. She was devoted to the Catholic faith, serving on the Legion of Mary, making/distributing rosaries, providing communion to the homebound and cooking for the priests. Mary was a talented singer who sang in many different choirs. She enjoyed painting, knitting, gardening and cooking/baking. She will be remembered for her love for reading and even worked at the Birmingham Library desk.

Friends may visit Lewis E. Wint & Son Funeral Home, Clarkston on Thursday, June 13th from 5:30pm-7:30pm.

A Memorial Mass will be held Friday, June 14th at 10:00am at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church, Waterford with visiting at the church at 9:30am

Private interment White Chapel Cemetery, Troy at a later date.

Memorials may be made to Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church or Wounded Warrior Project .
