Michael Charles Callahan

Michael Charles Callahan was born on July 4th, 1939 to parents Marcella and Cyril Callahan.  He always used to tell us that the fireworks on the 4th were for him!  He grew up in Dubuque, Iowa, playing baseball, as a catcher (just like his Dad, son and grandson) and attended catholic schools throughout his education including Loras Academy for High School where he played Basketball.  He continued on to Loras College and played College basketball.  He was known for his long arms, so naturally his nickname became "Arms."  He loved to tell his kids he was famous for his hook shot.

After college he became a CPA and moved to Chicago while working for Price Waterhouse.  In the meantime his brother Don was marrying his sweetheart Pat, who had a best friend named Sharon, which is how Mike met the love of his life at The Ten Pin Tap.  Mike and Sharon were married on November 16th, 1963. He moved back to Dubuque to work with his brother in law at a CPA firm in Dubuque, which is where Tari and Kelley were born.  1966 they moved to St Louis, Missouri where he took a job as controller at Hussmann corporation.

Todd was born in St. Louis, and they lived there for 10 years until he was promoted to General Manager for their wire products division, Chesley Industries in Farmington, Michigan.  Each of his kids worked there along with many of Todd's friends on the factory floor.  He loved being close to his kids and their families, so when Hussmann decided to shut down the plant they wanted to move him elsewhere, he decided he didn't want to leave Michigan, which we all felt good about his decision.  Michael was a very active member of AA over 37 years and made many friends in the program, whom he supported as much as I am sure they supported him. He really had a special relationship with all of his kids, their spouses and all of his grandchildren.  He also spent much of his time at church and said prayers on his rosary for anyone who asked him to pray for them.  So much so, that he created a "God Box" to put all the requests in.

Michael started in golf as a caddy at Bunker Hill Golf Course and became an avid golfer, having made two holes in one.  He golfed well into his 70's and played basketball with his son and grandsons, well into his 60's.  His calm, gentle, philosophical approach to challenging situations is how Michael helped so many family and friends get through difficult times in their lives.  Most importantly, Michael was dedicated and loved spending time with his family and friends, which is why he loved taking the family to Iowa every summer to be with relatives and friends back in his hometown of Dubuque, IA.  Michael spent every possible minute with his wife Sharon, who passed away 5 years ago.  Now they are reunited in heaven and playing endless rounds of golf, cards and his favorite past-time spinning Sharon on the dance floor.

CALLAHAN, Michael Charles of West Bloomfield; passed away on February 20, 2024; age 84.  Preceded in death by his wife, Sharon.  Loving father of Tari (Jeffrey) Pearce, Kelley (Patrick) Golich and Todd Callahan.  Proud grandfather of Jeffrey (Stacia) Pearce Jr., Steffen Pearce, Mac Pearce, Tyler Pearce, Presley Pearce, Patrick Golich Jr., Morgan Golich, Cameron Golich, Christian Golich, Chloe Callahan, and Braedyn Callahan.  Adored great grandfather of Callie Pearce and Jeffrey Pearce III.  Dearest brother of Donald (Patricia) Callahan, Dennis (late Marge) Callahan and the late Marilyn (Robert) Heinz.  Also survived by many loved nieces and nephews.
