Michael J. Kotzan

KOTZAN, Michael J.; of Clarkston; passed away suddenly on June 1, 2021, at the young age of 33. Michael is the beloved son of Joseph and Donna Kotzan; loving brother of Kathy (Sean) Paul and Karen (Russ) DeWitt; adored uncle of Kaylee, Brooklyn, Taylor, Will, and Cooper. He is survived by many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Michael graduated from Notre Dame Prep in 2005 before going to MSU's James Madison College.  After graduating from MSU, he went off to Miami and graduated from the University of Miami Law School in 2012.  After Law School he practiced law in Chicago.  He moved to Los Angeles in 2018 with his constant pup companion Bandit, to pursue his dream of becoming a Hollywood screen writer.

Michael was a very enthusiastic sports fan, especially of hockey, which he played for many years.  He loved to follow the Detroit sports teams and his beloved MSU Spartans.

Michael was one of the kindest, most considerate, sincere people who touched many people's lives and will never be forgotten.

Friends may visit at the Lewis E. Wint & Son Funeral Home, Clarkston, Friday June 11 from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm, for an opportunity to share memories and honor Michael's life. A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday June 12, 2021 at 10:00 am at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church, Waterford. Michael's family will receive visitors at church Saturday, anytime after 9:30 am.

In lieu of flowers, Michael's family is encouraging memorial donations be made to Notre Dame Prep , where there will be a scholarship fund started in his honor. Please include his name on the form.
