Michael A. Waller

WALLER, Michael A. "Mike" of Waterford; passed away on October 13, 2024; age 74.  Dear son of late Edna M. and Malcolm R. Waller of Plymouth, MI. Beloved husband of Sandra "Sandy" Futrell Waller for over 50 years. Loving father of Kelli (Brandon) Greer of Grand Rapids and Casey (Lindsay) Waller of Macomb. Loving papa of Ava and Allison Greer and Rowan Waller. Preceded in death by granddaughter Abigail Rose Greer.

Mike graduated from Central Michigan University with a degree in Recreation and Secondary Education. Mike was a Physical Education teacher and coach in the Flint Beecher School District for 10 years. He also received 18 hours towards a 30-hour master's program from Eastern Michigan University. He retired from teaching after 10 years of employment due to educational cuts. Mike then went to work for Waterford Lumber as their driver, driving house loads of lumber until they closed. Mike went to Burke Building Supply in Drayton Plains and became their lumber foreman and driver. He worked at Burkes, retiring after 26 years. Mike became a hockey official while working at Burkes. He was a referee for Lakeland Ice Arena for the over 30 league, as well as high school hockey for 21 years. Mike also helped set up high school hockey in Waterford schools where he worked on the Rules Committee.

Mike was a hard worker and taught the children a strong work ethic. Mike was fun, loving, and loved a good story and a coke. Mike was diagnosed with Vascular Dementia in February of 2023 and by November of 2023, he had to be placed in a memory care facility with this horrible disease. Special thanks to the staff of Serene Gardens that took care of Mike. He was a wonderful husband, dad, and papa. We will all miss him dearly.

Visitation Thursday, October 17th from 4-8 pm at the Lewis E. Wint & Son Funeral Home, Clarkston.

Funeral Service Friday, October 18th at 12:30pm at the funeral home.

Interment Crescent Hills Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
