Robert J. Beattie

Robert James Beattie, age 90, peacefully passed on to his heavenly life, leaving behind a legacy of devotion, hard work, creativity, and deep love for his family and community. He is survived by his beloved wife, Doris "Dody" E. Beattie (Cecil), his two sons, Thomas James Beattie and Bradley Eric Beattie, and his eldest sister, Margaret Ann Jackson.

Bob's dedication to learning and excellence was evident early in life. He attended Cleary College, where he received the Outstanding Student Award upon graduation. He then joined the family business, Beattie Motor Sales, originally founded by his father in 1930. After the Ford franchise was sold, Bob remodeled the property and, in 1974, reopened it as Beattie Interiors. With a strong background in the home furnishings industry and an innate artistic talent, Bob poured his creativity into building a successful, respected business.

Dody worked by his side, supporting the company as an accountant and stepping in wherever needed. Their sons, Tom and Brad, grew up learning the family trade as they assisted with furniture deliveries. The Beattie family business became a testament not only to Bob's craftsmanship, but also to their shared dedication and work ethic.

Bob honorably served his country as a United States Marine for six years and was immensely proud of his service. He represented the U.S. Marine Corps in Lansing with Governor John Swainson—an honor he carried with humility and gratitude throughout his life.

A man of deep faith, Bob was an active member of Clarkston United Methodist Church from 1962 onward, serving on many committees and contributing generously to the church community he cherished. He was also a dedicated member of both the Clarkston and Waterford Rotary Clubs, where he served as president and maintained perfect attendance. Education was a value he held close, and he supported the Clarkston Education Foundation to foster opportunities for future generations.

Bob is survived by his sons, Thomas James Beattie and Amy Beattie of Clarkston, and Bradley Eric Beattie and Keirsten of Lenoir, North Carolina. He was extraordinarily proud of his grandchildren: Thomas Beattie, (Chelsea), Emily Kramer, (Chris), Clark Beattie, (Samantha), Joseph Beattie, Brian Beattie, (Kristina), Kevin Beattie, (Lacey), and Jack Beattie.

He was also the delighted great-grandfather of Olivia, James, Weston, Lincoln, Bellamy, Hugh, Oscar, and Nole. Bob's heart was fullest when surrounded by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren—each one a blessing he treasured deeply.

A memorial service honoring Bob's life will be held on Saturday, December 13th, at Clarkston United Methodist Church, 6100 Waldon Road, Clarkston, MI. at 1pm. Visitation at 12pm-1pm.

May you rest in peace, Bob.
