Robert B. Inskeep

Robert B. Inskeep, 81, of Clarkston, Ml, passed away on August 3, 2026, after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease.

Born on June 15, 1945, in Niagara Falls, New York, he was the son of the late Paul and Margaret (Florence) Inskeep. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Joanne (Haley) Inskeep; his brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Patricia Inskeep of Youngstown, New York; his son and daughter-in-law, Matthew and Terri Inskeep of Clinton Twp, Michigan; his grandsons, Henry, Herbert, and Hugo; his nephews, Paul and Michael; his niece, Dr. Dawn Hrab (Inskeep); and several grandnephews.

 After completing a bachelor's degree in psychology at the University of Buffalo, Bob moved to the Detroit area in 1967-just three weeks after the 67 riots--to begin master's and doctorate degree programs in organizational and industrial psychology at Detroit's Wayne State University, completing them in 1972 and 1978, respectively. A proud pioneer in his field, Bob helped to shape early Employee Assistance Counseling in Detroit and across the country, providing confidential assistance to employees navigating alcohol and drug abuse, as well as other personal problems impacting their work. This early work provided Bob the chance to speak to decision-makers throughout the Midwest, appear before a U.S. Congress subcommittee on workplace addiction, and host First Lady Pat Nixon when she visited his Detroit addiction program in the early 1980s.Bob also had a deep love for career counseling. Once he found out what people had chosen as a career, he loved to poke and probe into how they ended up choosing their particular occupation, providing career guidance to both young and old his entire life. Most enjoyable for him were the workshops on "Purposeful Retirement" that he and his business partner, Dick Rappleye, conducted for several years prior to, during, and after the pandemic. Outside of his professional life, Bob was a man of vibrant energy and many hobbies. He loved to play Frisbee at the drop of a hat, even writing a paper on "how to teach a novice to throw a frisbee" for a graduate course in the psychology of learning. His favorite team sport was football, and his favorite outdoor activities included biking, hiking, canoeing, camping in Michigan, Ontario, and "Out West," as well as participating in 5K races. A fan of 1950s through 1980s rock and roll, he enjoyed attending concerts, making mixtapes for when he was "going mobile," and working out at the gym. He notably shared a favorite rock artist with First Lady Laura Bush: Van Morrison. At home, Bob's favorite pastime was model railroading. He had fun carving up and moving his layout from home to home, sharing the construction first with his son, Matt, and later operating the trains with his grandsons. He and Joanne also loved their many dogs, and Bob often spoke of how he was looking forward to reuniting with them in the "Great Beyond.

Family will receive friends at the Lewis E. Wint & Son Funeral Home-Clarkston on Thursday, August 13, 2026, from 4:30pm to 7:00pm, with a Life Remembrance Service beginning at 5:00 pm.

 Memorial Mass will be 11:00 am Friday, August 14, 2026, at Christ the Redeemer in Lake Orion.at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church, Orion with visiting at the church at 10:30 am.
