Sandra Lynn Sutherland

SUTHERLAND, Sandra Lynn; of Commerce Twp.; born August 21, 1941, in Chicago, IL; passed away peacefully on August 27, 2026, at the age of 85.

Beloved wife of Alan for almost 50 years. Preceded in death by her parents Stanley and Dorothy Shawver, and sister Muriel (late Eric) Reickel. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Sandra obtained her master’s degree from Wayne State University. She went on to teach English at Oakland Community College for over 40 years; dedicating her time enriching students in literature. Later in her life, she obtained her certification in scuba diving along with her husband Alan. They enjoyed many years of traveling and going diving together. Sandra was also a very avid reader. She will be remembered as a dedicated instructor and bookworm who loved traveling with her husband to various places and going diving. She will be dearly missed.
