Shirley Ann Grupido

Shirley Ann Grupido passed away peacefully at home in Ortonville, MI on August 12, 2026, at the age of 89, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on September 24, 1936, to Joseph DeWolf and Elisa Hutman, Shirley grew up in Detroit, Michigan. She went on to build a beautiful life centered around family, creativity, adventure, and the many things she loved.

Above all else, Shirley loved her family. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were an enormous part of her life, and she treasured the time she spent with them.

Shirley was the loving mother of Anna Grupido Kandt Perrollaz and her husband, Darin Perrollaz; the late Kym Grupido and her husband, Craig Grupido; and Nicola J. Grupido Jr. and his wife, Barbara Grupido.

She was a proud grandmother to Wenonah Grupido; Nicole Tyler Charlick and her husband, Grant; Dominique Davis and her husband, Ryan; Shannon McLaughlin Simonetti and her husband, Christopher; Kayla Fujinaka and her husband, Allen; Riana Vandette and her husband, Rob; Nicola J. Grupido III and his wife, Carolina; Shane McLaughlin and his wife, Abby; Antonio Grupido; Eryn Grupido; Christian McLaughlin; Santino Grupido and Starlyn Cramer; and Siera Grupido.

Her family continued to grow with the arrival of her beloved great-grandchildren: Colton, Rhett, Gracie, Vesper, Sawyer, Anastasia, Sabastian, Oliver and Harrison.

Shirley is also survived by her sister, Victoria DeWolf Pryzbycki, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends who will remember her with love.

Shirley had a creative spirit and hands that were rarely still. She loved quilting, knitting, crocheting, baking, and drawing, and many of the things she created became treasured reminders of her love and talent.

Music was another special part of her life. She enjoyed playing bells and singing in the choir. She loved old movies and Disney and could happily spend time enjoying the films that brought her so much joy.

Shirley also had an adventurous side. In her younger years, she loved playing tennis and ice skating, and she served as a Girl Scout leader, sharing her time and talents with younger generations. She traveled throughout the United States and had the opportunity to experience Europe and Mexico, creating memories and stories along the way.

She worked for many years as a florist at Bogie Lake Greenhouses, eventually retiring from a career that suited her creative nature and appreciation for beautiful things.

Shirley was also a woman of remarkable strength. She faced cancer not once, but twice and beat it both times. That strength and determination were part of who she was throughout her life.

She lived 89 years filled with family, creativity, music, travel, laughter, challenges overcome, and countless memories. Her greatest legacy can be seen in the generations that follow her, the children she raised, the grandchildren she adored, and the great-grandchildren who brought her so much joy.

While her family will deeply miss her presence, her hands, her voice, her stories, and the familiar things that made her simply Shirley, pieces of her will remain everywhere in a handmade quilt, a favorite recipe, an old movie, a song, a family gathering, and in the memories carried by everyone who loved her.

Shirley Ann Grupido was deeply loved, and she will be deeply missed.

Funeral Service will take place at Lewis E. Wint & Son Funeral Home, Clarkston on Friday, August 28th, at 1:00pm with visiting beginning at 12:00pm. Interment to follow at All Saints Cemetery, Waterford.
