Susan Wedda

Susan M. Wedda

Born in Bronxville, NY to John & Elizabeth Wedda on July 24, 1945. She was raised primarily in Salisbury, CT and graduated from Housatonic Valley Regional High School. She then obtained a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Rochester (NY) and subsequently a Masters in Social Work from the University of Michigan.

She resided in Genesee County since then, working as a clinical social worker, initially at Community Mental Health, then Auburn Counseling Associates for 34 years as a therapist as well as administrator. After the clinic closed, she worked in solo practice until 2026 and part-time for Bay Valley/Genesys Hospice for many years.  Sue received multiple awards and recognition for her service as a social worker.

Sue was a faithful Red Cross blood donor, having donated 30 gallons. She also had a passion for social justice and the environment, having been a member of the Sierra Club for nearly 60 years. She loved nature and throughout her life she made a concerted effort to minimize her environmental impact.  Sue also supported numerous foundations and causes throughout her life.

Sue leaves behind: Carol Ferguson, her life partner and their family, a niece & nephew in Connecticut, and cousins.  Predeceased by her parents and brother Bruce, brother-in-law Michael Klopman, and fur-baby basset hounds. Per her wishes, Sue continues to help even after her death. Her body was donated to science through University of Michigan where she can help in a variety of ways. While Sue did not want a service, to honor her memory donations can be made to the Humane Society of Genesee County or, for those who are able, they can become a blood donor to the Red Cross.

Being the perpetual helper that she was, Sue had already drafted her obituary. Her years of experience helping others through grief also continued. Below is a piece found in her office, from Sue to her loved ones, may this help ease your grief.

When I go don't learn to live without me, just learn to live with my love in a different way. And if you need to see me, close your eyes, or look in your shadow when the sun shines. I'm there. Sit with me in the quiet and you will know that I did not leave. There is no leaving when a soul is blended with another. When I go, don't love without me, just learn to look for me in the moments. I will be there.
