Terence (Terry) M. Haran, age 87, of Clarkston, MI, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, December 15, 2025.
Born on October 29, 1938, in The Bronx, New York, Terry was the beloved son of the late Joseph and Alma Haran. He spent his childhood in New York and Point Pleasant, New Jersey, where he graduated from St. Rose Catholic High School. He then attended the University of Connecticut before being drafted into the U.S. Army, where he served honorably as an administrator of deployments and discharges. Following his military service, Terry graduated from the University of Miami with a degree in Business Administration.
Terry's professional career began in the assessing department of Dade County, FL. In 1966, his life changed when he met Elizabeth (Betty) while standing up in a wedding together; they were married in 1967, beginning a loving and devoted partnership that lasted over 58 years. The family relocated to Michigan in 1970, where Terry served as the City Assessor for Madison Heights, MI, and later retired in 1999 as both City Assessor and Head of Economic Development. Recognized for his sharp acumen in the field real estate appraisal, Terry taught at various colleges and professional seminars and lent his expertise to his community at the Independence Township Board of Review and his parish, St. Daniel in Clarkston.
Beyond his accomplished career, Terry was a man of a variety of interests and passions. He was a dedicated historian who enjoyed traveling and spent countless hours documenting and preparing detailed family histories for both his and Betty's families. He was a collector of trains, played recreational golf, and cherished regular family trips to Hilton Head Island, SC. Known for being a fabulous wealth of knowledge and conversation in historical, political, and civic affairs, Terry was happiest at home with his wife and children. Above all, he was a loving father and grandfather who enriched his family through experiences, education and moral stability.
Terry was the beloved husband of Elizabeth (Betty) Haran, and the dearest father of Matthew (Jennifer) Haran of Hermosa Beach, CA, Susan (Jeff) Christensen of Grosse Pointe Park, MI, and Robert (Paula) Haran of Grosse Pointe Farms, MI. He was the loving grandfather of Anna, Michael, Gus, Max, Henry, and June. He was the dear brother of the late Joseph Haran.
