Thomas E. Purves, 85 of Clarkston, Michigan passed away peacefully on January 10, 2025 surrounded by his loving family, leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication and cherished memories. Born on Valentine's Day, 1939, Tom's life was a testament to hard work, passion and unwavering devotion to his family and community.
Tom was the proud owner and operator of Purves Excavating in Clarkston, Michigan for over 40 years. His dedication, integrity and hard work earned him the respect and admiration of the community.
On September 15, 1956, Tom married the love of his life, Janet. When Tom met Janet at Cunningham's lunch counter in Owosso, Michigan, it was love at first sight beginning a remarkable journey that spanned nearly seven decades. Together, they raised five children and created a family legacy rooted in love, laughter and countless cherished memories.
Family was the heart of Tom's life, and nothing brought him more joy than spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A fun day with Grandpa wasn't complete without a golf cart packed with little ones, their laughter filling the air. His spontaneous bursts of song and zest for life made every moment with him unforgettable.
Tom's life was enriched by many hobbies, including hunting, fishing and racing homing pigeons. These passions weren't just his own – he eagerly shared his knowledge with his family, teaching them the skills and values he held dear. A proud member of the Davisburg Rotary Club, Tom achieved perfect attendance for over 25 years, exemplifying his dedication to service and fellowship.
Tom is survived by his beloved wife Janet; his five children Julie (Gerald) Lee, Cindy Kreiner, Carrie (Glenn) Smith, Shelley (Steven) Gould, Thomas (Melissa) Purves; Grandpa of Deanna (Sean), Brian (Lauren), William/BG, Kyle (Jackie), Derek (Krystle), Tom (Lauren), Joe (Katie), Thomas and Allie; Great Grandpa to Troy, Isaiah, Evan, Trenton, Robyn, Liam, Aurelia, Annabel, Kyla, Rafferty and beautiful twins, Elizabeth and Penelope. He is also survived by many nephews, nieces and countless friends who were blessed to know him.
Visitation will be held at Lewis E. Wint & Son Funeral Home in Clarkston, MI on Thursday, January 16th from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
A funeral service will be held at Lewis E. Wint & Son Funeral Home in Clarkston, MI on Friday, January 17th starting at 9:30 am, followed by a burial service at Davisburg Cemetery in Davisburg, MI.
In Lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Springfield Parks and Recreation (12000 Davisburg Road, Davisburg, MI 48350) in his honor.
Tom's legacy of love, strength, and joy will forever live in the hearts of his family and all who knew him. Rest peacefully Grandpa, you will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
